Why You're Not Meeting Your Goals

From the website Mindbodygreen.com great article I had to share.

Why You're Not Meeting Your Goals

To be successful in reaching a goal, you must know and surpass the things that may hinder you from getting there. Aside from changing or improving the things that will be discussed below, you need to save a sufficient amount of determination, persistence, and patience.

Read on and study the following taboos in goal-setting. If you're guilty of one, most, or all of them, immediately act, think of and apply ideal and effective steps to improve or totally eradicate those things.

1. You have the wrong mindset.

How you think makes a huge impact: it’s just up to you if that impact is negative or positive. If at the beginning, you're already thinking about not making it, then you will surely fail in reaching your goals.

On the other hand, if you already envision yourself at the top, cheering, you're more likely to be successful. That's the simple principle behind Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). You act and be what you think!

2. You're surrounding yourself with the wrong people.

Sometimes we do not realize how people around us can influence the way we think, perceive things, and see ourselves. If we are always around people who don’t believe in attaining success through goal-setting and its great effects in our whole being, you will surely be a person who will always refuse to set goals.

If we surround ourselves with pessimists and idle people, we will surely be engulfed by negative and mentally detrimental thoughts and lying on the couch all day watching television having no clear directions in life. Hang out with people who are excited to set and reach their goals. Also, be with those who can encourage, inspire, motivate, and support you in your endeavor.

3. You have an ineffective and inflexible plan.

In every undertaking, we need a plan. Any wonderful and incredibly strong infrastructure started with blue prints, with plans. The same must happen in goal setting. You need to have a strategic plan for every step that you’re going to take. As they always say, “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” But, we are not talking about mere plans here, but good and effective ones.

So, think of at least three great plans and label them Plan A, Plan B, and Plan C, with the first one to be the best and most effective method. In plotting your courses of action, you need to consider several things: your skills and knowledge; resources and support group; present emotional, physical, mental, financial, and social status; and timing.

Also, you need flexibility. If you have a very rigid plan, you may not be able to adapt to surprises, particularly the unpleasant ones that life will throw at you. Don’t be caught unprepared when such things happen. Be ready by having good, effective, and flexible plans.

4. You lack motivation.

You cannot come up with a good, effective, and flexible plan if you are not motivated in the first place. So how can you start working on your goals, if your spirits are down, tired, disappointed, discouraged, or torn apart?

You need to get some inspiration somewhere. Just like writers or artists, they are able to get best results with some help from inspiring things or persons. Draw inspiration from anything or anyone. Of course, the number one on the list is your family and friends. Soak yourself in their loving and uplifting words and actions.

However, you can also get inspiration from those who disappoint, discourage, belittle, or criticize you. It just depends on how you see the situation. Brushing off nasty and hurtful words and actions and turn those into stepping stones can be very tough. It is a skill you need to learn and master.

5. You need more self-discipline.

Many intelligent people still flunk in school. Why? Because they lack self-discipline. This means that success doesn’t necessarily rely on intelligence alone, but mostly on self-control. You need to control the attributes that make you human – laziness, procrastination, and negativism.

If you succumb to these, surely you will not be successful in achieving your goals. If you have problems with these, you need to be ready when their early signs arise. You need to set rules for yourself and be strict about them. If you start to feel a bit lazy, take action in order to beat that ugly feeling.

Gave me a lot to think about and work on adjusting to reach my goals.

Part 2 and Giving Up

Life has gone by so fast this past month. I can't believe that my last post was on June 7Th. With kiddos being out of school time has just flown by. I was sick for a little over a week, had my Birthday and now we are into July.
Do you remember my last post Why Not Just Eat It? Well this is the 2nd part to that post. I have been doing nutritional research and trying to figure out what my body needs, wants and what I am willing to do. In the reading I have done I found that another reason it is great to juice is that the body doesn't have to do so much work to break down the food for digestion. We as a people do not masticate (love this word) or chew   our food as much as we need to,  therefor it is a lot more work for our bodies to break down the food for elimination.
Now on to my new goals I have set. The day after my Birthday June 28Th I decided I was going to become a lacto-ovo-vegan. Meaning I will still consume some dairy like small amounts of cheese and maybe still egg whites but not much. I also decided to start eating about 85% to 90% raw foods. My body doesn't seem to like the meat products too much and I feel awful afterwards. The raw foods really make me feel better, I have more energy and don't feel as sluggish after a meal.

My new goal for the month of July is to give up this:

Saturday I was giving a massage to a new client and friend Megan who was telling me about her running and that she gave up sugar 12 weeks ago. This inspired me to make this move now so thank you Megan!
I do have high blood pressure so I have to take medication for this (it is a very low dose) but still is something that if I don't take it I swell up like a blow fish if I eat too much salt.
This is a major weakness of mine. Hi I am Bobbi Jo Nichols and I am a salt addict. (HI BOBBI JO)
No I am not making fun of people in AA . My point is food can be an addiction for some people and for me there are certain foods that fall into that category.
Before I know it school will be starting again for my girls so we are planning a couple little get a ways. One of the soonest ones will be when Coco has her baby. I am so excited to meet this sweet little girl, Kylia .
Then we are planing a camping trip soon after that.
It has been a good summer so far and just now getting a little too hot for me and my liking.
Well it is Sunday evening and it has been a good day. We attended church, came home, had lunch and a long discussion as a family. Now we are all just enjoying our evening.
I'll check in a little later this week.

Out With 2008 & in With 2009

I am feeling a little sentimental as I write this so bare with me.
This year hasn't been the greatest one but there have been some wonderful things that have come our way. The first is this little man:
What a wonderful blessing he has been to our family. He is such a sweet and good spirited little man. Talmage I would have to say is what I will remember as the best thing in 2008.
Then next great thing would be having Coco and Kyle moved down from Pinetop: I love them and missed seeing Coco so much. She is such a good mom and sweet daughter even when she get's frustrated with me and my craziness.
Living with us, I am sure wasn't the funnest thing for them but it has been great to have them be here.
Kyle was able to get into the Academy & graduate and get a job with Sherri f Joe as a Detention Officer and enjoys his work.
Coco & Kyle buying there own home and it only being 7 minutes away from me. Even though now she has internet service so she probably won't be over to see me. (he he)
I also have this:

Let me guess you don't see anything! You can place your picture here. My sweet invisible friends who I blog to and stalk your blogs and leave comments. Your friendship and the honor of calling you friend. Some of you have lost a dear one and I have prayed for you. Those of you who have shared your joy and sadness I have cheered you on and prayed for you. Thank you for being there!
We (my family) have had a year of struggling to find a job for Alan. Him getting a job then getting laid off. We have had friends move away and some friends pass away this year. We have had an unsure economy, gas prices going crazy and as always on an election year a lot of mud slinging from politicians. But you know when it comes down to it, WE have our family, our faith, freedom of religion, laughter and lot's of love. So as I look on this past year sure I have gotten a little wiser, a little older and a few pounds heavier but I wouldn't trade it for the world with all the lessons I have learned. I am excited about what 2009 holds or should I say what I can achieve in 2009. I spoke of goals or resolutions in a past post and I have been thinking a lot about this the past 2 months. I would like to share with you a few of my goals for the upcoming year.
1. Spend time on what is the most important in my life
2. Lifestyle changes of health & fitness
3. Observe the Sabbath more fully
4. Visit the Temple regularly
5. Love my family more
6. Do more to make our home a place of refuge from the world
7. Organize and prepare for the month ahead
These are just some of the ones I chose to share today. I have been working on the plans of making these things happen in my life.
So goodbye to 2008 and HELLO to 2009!
Tonight we are staying at home and watching movies or TV. If I can find an American Carol we will be watching that. I am making my traditional New Years meal that I have made for the last 20 years. I make a special spread ( shared by my Mother in Love) of cream cheese, apricot pineapple preserves and a tablespoon or two of mustard. Mix this together and let sit. I make homemade rolls and a spiral ham. After the rolls and the ham are cooked put some spread on the roll a little bit of ham and there you go a yummy dinner. Of course you have the cut up veggies and dip, salad, chips and munchies.
Wising you all a fantastic so long to the old year and best wishes for a wonderful New Year. Happy New Year to you all. Drive safe if you have to be on the road and see you next year. Hugs, Bobbi Jo
